From 15 to 17 July 2025 WANO MC in cooperation with Kola Nuclear Power Plant conducted the international training seminar on “Operational Decision Making” at the Kola plant site.
32 Representatives of Kola NPP and Russian NPPs (Beloyarsk NPP, Balakovo NPP, Novovoronezh NPP, Leningrad NPP) and Belarusian NPP employees took part in the seminar.
In his welcoming speech Dmitry Morozov, Kola NPP Deputy Chief Engineer, noted the importance of cooperative efforts and, in particular, in conducting training courses for the plant personnel. WANO MC Leadership and Competencies Development Department Head Sergey Loktionov mentioned the importance of the seminar theme and the necessity of using the instruments provided by WANO for making effective decisions. He also stressed that the use of principles of effective decision-making will help the managers and the personnel to use methods and procedures for safe and reliable operation more efficient.
During the course, the participants got acquainted with the WANO vision in the field of operational decision-making process, as well as with the operational decision-making methodology adopted by Kola Nuclear Power Plant. During the practical exercises, the participants were able to apply both decision-making tools, exchange opinions and discuss the knowledge gained at the event.
The training course results, which are to be executed in the form of the memorandum and sent to the participants, were discussed at the closing meeting. Dmitry Morozov, Kola NPP Deputy Chief Engineer, thanked the organizers and all participants of the course for their involvement and interest, also reminded that managerial mistakes in decision-making come at price, that is why it is so important to make decisions systematically. Participants noted the usefulness of conducting training courses with practical training of the acquired knowledge and welcomed holding such seminars at NPPs.
In accordance with the “Train the Trainers” concept, training materials of the seminar were provided to the Kola plant management and specialists.
