From June 24 to July 4, WANO Moscow Centre conducted a corporate peer review (CPR) of FSUE Atomflot.
The nuclear icebreaker fleet has been transferred to the management of Rosatom State Corporation since August 2008. FSUE Atomflot provides operation and technical maintenance of nuclear icebreakers and auxiliary fleet vessels. The company's main activities: icebreaking support for the ships’ passage along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and to the freezing ports of the Russian Federation; maintenance and repair work for general and special purposes for the nuclear fleet; safe handling of nuclear materials and radioactive waste.
The CPR purpose was to support the company in improving interaction with nuclear-powered ships, in establishing an optimal organizational structure and in finding the best ways to solve performance problems, which leads to increasing safety and reliability of icebreakers.
The team included seven experts from four countries: Armenia, India, China and Russia. An independent assessment of the CPR team's findings was carried out by an industry adviser and responsible representative of WANO MC.
As a standard with which Atomflot performance was compared, the guidance document “Performance objectives and criteria”, PO&C 2019-1, was used. The company's performance was assessed in seven corporate areas: leadership, management, oversight and monitoring, independent oversight, support, human resource management, leadership development, and communication.
