Member Support Mission at Novovoronezh NPP

From 28 to 30 May, 2024, WANO Moscow Centre conducted a support mission (MSM) on the topic: “Preparation for decommissioning of a multi-unit NPP power unit, shut down for decommissioning as part of a double unit (in one main building, one of the units is operated in extended service life mode)” at Novovoronezh NPP.

The following experts took part in the WANO mission:
• Galim Musin (WANO MC, Russia)
• Sergey Tretyakov (Rosenergoatom Central Office, Russia)
• Pavel Fedorov (VNIIAES, Russia)
• Dmitry Mikhailov (Moscow branch of Atomenergoproekt JSC, Russia)
• Alexey Biryukov (JSC NIKIET, Russia)
• Ivan Korneev (TVEL JSC, Russia)
• Ashot Hakobyan (Armenian NPP, Armenia)

The MSM purpose was to obtain practical recommendations for improving performance on the MSM topic.

Issues of interest to Novovoronezh NPP are listed below:
• separation of operating and decommissioning units;
• planning of work and dismantling of decommissioned equipment;
• organization and conduct of comprehensive engineering and radiation surveys, modern dismantling and decontamination technologies;
• accounting and control of the movement of materials generated during decommissioning.

At the final meeting with the Novovoronezh NPP management, experts presented a draft MSM report and proposals for improving activities in the field of preparation for decommissioning of a power unit of a multi-unit nuclear power plant.
