On June 25-28, 2024 the International Nuclear Leadership and Safety Culture training seminar, was held, organized by Kola NPP and WANO Moscow Centre.
More than 50 representatives of Russian NPPs (Kola NPP, Beloyarsk NPP, Kursk NPP) and employees of Rosenergoatom JSC, Atomflot, Atomenergoremont branches, AKKUYU NUCLEAR Company, Belarusian NPP participated in the seminar. This seminar was one of the largest in terms of the number of participants.
In his welcoming speech, Vladimir Matveev, Kola NPP Chief Engineer, stressed that one of the main tasks for the plant is the creation of leadership among middle managers. And they represented the majority of the participants of the seminar.
Anatoly Kirichenko, WANO MC First Deputy Director, mentioned in his welcoming speech that Kola NPP was not randomly chosen as the venue for the training event, since it is a leader in leadership, safety culture and industrial safety. Kola plant’s reliable, efficient and certainly safe work is proof of this.

• WANO Documents for Leadership Development.
During the five days of the seminar, the participants examined in detail the issues of leadership and its impact on safety culture. The participants highly appreciated delivered seminar, pointed out actuality and applicability of all seminar’s topics to all activities at Kola Nuclear Power Plant. Participants also discussed the status and progress of WANO Leadership concepts implementation at Russian NPPs of JSC “Rosenergoatom”, and actual leadership challenges. A technical tour was conducted for the seminar participants with a visit to the turbine hall, the control room and the reactor hall.
In accordance with the WANO “Train-Trainers” Philosophy, all training materials (Lecture slides, practical training exercises, test questions and answer keys) and training methodology were presented to the Kola NPP training centre for continuous leadership training of the personnel.
