Kudankulam NPP Support Mission (India)
From 4 to 8 December, 2023, WANO Moscow Centre jointly with Paris and Atlanta Centres, conducted a support mission (MSM) on the topic: “Risk Management” at Kudankulam NPP. The mission took place in an expert format.
The following experts took part in the WANO mission:
• Ivan Goncharov, WANO Moscow Centre,
• Mc Neaill SR Kenyon, WANO Atlanta Centre,
• Stemberk Jan, ČEZ a.s.,
• Andrey Prokhodtsev, WANO Moscow Centre,
• Kiss Tibor, Paks NPP
The MSM goal was to gain experience on the following issues:
• Risk management concept and integrated risk management.
• Methodology for identifying and assessing long-term and short-term operational risks at the plant.
• Methodology for assessing, reporting and monitoring long-term and short-term operational risks at the plant.
• Methodology for identifying and assessing activities/events with potential risk.
• Description of the existing organizational structure at the plant responsible for risk management of NPP with VVER and other PWR type reactors. (Responsible department at the station).
• Frequency of assessment and reporting of safety, production/operational risks.
• Risk avoidance and mitigation strategies applied at different plants.
At the final meeting with Kudankulam NPP management, experts presented proposals for improving organization of the integrated risk management system and a draft MSM report.
