From 28 to 31 October 2023, WANO Moscow Centre conducted a support mission (MSM) at Bushehr NPP on the topic: “Radiation protection equipment”. The mission took place in the assist visit format.
The following experts took part in the WANO mission:
• Ivan Goncharov, WANO Moscow Centre,
• Igor Polishchuk, Beloyarsk NPP
• Dmitry Sergeev, Rostov NPP
• Alexander Korneev, Kalinin NPP
The MSM purpose was to study the current state of Bushehr NPP and develop recommendations for improving radiation protection equipment. During the mission, the event participants discussed the following issues:
1. Analysis, measurement and interpretation of the results of the specific activity of a high-activity sample related to the primary coolant of a nuclear power plant with a VVER-1000 reactor, under normal operating conditions.
2. Analysis, measurement and interpretation of the results of the specific activity of a high-activity sample related to the primary coolant of a nuclear power plant with a VVER-1000 reactor, under emergency operating conditions.
3. Radiochemical process of preparing a sample of the primary coolant with high activity.
4. Effective measurement and monitoring of surface contamination of nuclear power plants and used equipment.
5. Effective and correct use of the permit for dosimetric works when performing work with increased radiation risk.
6. Measurement of the volumetric activity of the radioactive isotope of iodine.
7. Measurement of isotopes that are present in the oxide layer inside the pipes of all primary water circuits and constitute the main source of radiation exposure in the radiological control zone.
At the final meeting with Bushehr NPP management, experts presented recommendations for improving the operation of radiation protection equipment and a draft MSM report.
