Emergency exercises at the Bushehr NPP
On 17 May 2019, the 50th anniversary of World Telecommunication & Information Society Day, WANO-MC Regional Crisis Center was involved in the emergency exercises at the Bushehr nuclear power plant (NPPD Company, Iran).

The exercises brought together the following target participants:

- World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), Moscow Centre
- Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, Situation and Crisis Center (SCC)/Rosatom, Technical Support Centers (VNIIAES JSC, Typhoon RPA, OKB Gidropress, NRC “Kurchatov Institute”) representing the Russian Federation
- Bushehr NPP (NPPD) representing Iran
- Loviisa NPP (Fortum Power and Heat Oy) representing Finland
- Paks NPP representing Hungary
- Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation representing China
- Slovenské Elektrárne representing Slovakia
- NNEGC Energoatom representing Ukraine
- Kozloduy NPP representing Bulgaria
- Armenian NPP representing Armenia
- CEZ JSC, Temelín and Dukovany NPPs representing the Czech Republic
- Belorusskaya NPP representing Belarus

The purpose of the exercises was to respond to a simulated accident at the Bushehr plant as prescribed by the RCC policy document, Regulations on Information Exchange among WANO-MC Regional Crisis Center Members.

The RCC participated in the exercises to achieve the following:

• To notify early the RCC members of the simulated accident.
• To practice RCC/Member operating organization interaction.
• To drill the RCC on-duty personnel in response to emergency situations.
Pursuant to the RCC Regulations on Information Exchange, the Bushehr plant informed the RCC about the accident in the prescribed form for the RCC to immediately notify its members and receive their feedback.
The Rosenergoatom-based WANO-MC Regional Crisis Center was established in 2013 to address the recommendations formulated by the WANO Post-Fukushima Commission.
