Emergency exercises at the Zaporizhie
On November 14th, 15th 2018, the WANO-MC Regional Crisis Center was involved in the joint emergency exercises at the Zaporizhie nuclear power plant (State Enterprise NNEGC “Energoatom”, Ukraine).

The exercises brought together the following target participants:

- World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO), Moscow Centre
- Zaporizhie NPP and NNEGC Energoatom representing Ukraine
- Rosenergoatom Concern JSC, Situation and Crisis Center (SCC)/Rosatom representing the Russian Federation
- Loviisa NPP representing Finland
- Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation representing China
- Slovenské Elektrárne representing Slovakia
- Kozloduy NPP representing Bulgaria
- Armenian NPP representing Armenia
- CEZ JSC, Temelín and Dukovany NPPs representing the Czech Republic
- Bushehr NPP representing Iran
- Belorusskaya NPP representing Belarus

The purpose of the exercises was to respond to a simulated accident at the Zaporizhie plant as prescribed by the RCC policy document, Regulations on Information Exchange among WANO-MC Regional Crisis Center Members.

The RCC participated in the exercises to achieve the following:

• To test Energoatom – RCC communication channels capability in response to the simulated radiation accident;
• To notify early the RCC members of the simulated accident.
• To practice NNEGC Energoatom/RCC/Member operating organization interaction.
• To drill the RCC on-duty personnel in response to emergency situations.
Pursuant to the RCC Regulations on Information Exchange, Energoatom informed the RCC about the accident in the prescribed form for the RCC to immediately notify its members and receive their feedback.
The Rosenergoatom-based WANO-MC Regional Crisis Center was established in 2013 to address the recommendations formulated by the WANO Post-Fukushima Commission. Activity of the WANO Moscow Centre RCC are supported by the WANO members from 12 countries affiliated to the Moscow region.
