During 4 to 13 November 2018, WANO Moscow Center conducted a Member Support Mission (MSM) at Armenian NPP on the topic ‘Organization of radiation safety and radioactive waste management’.
The following experts took part in the WANO mission:

· Afanaskin Yuri, Balakovo NPP, Russia;
· Kostenko Valentin, Khmelnitsk NPP, Ukraine;
· Salagaev Oleg, Rovno NPP, Ukraine;
· Guzhilov Maxim, Kalinin NPP, Russia;
· Smirnov Alexey, Kola NPP, Russia.
MSM goals:
· identification of deficits related to organization of radiation safety and radioactive waste management;
· assessment of radiation safety and radwaste management system performance;
· exchange of experience and opinions, adaptation of international experience in the existing plant radiation safety and radwaste management system;
· development of recommendations for performance improvement in radiation safety and radioactive waste management area.
The following issues were discussed during the mission by its participants:
· Minimization of personnel exposure doses;
· Organization of radiation safety work, maintenance work management, ALARA methodology.
· Performance of dose burden analysis and development of actions for its reduction.
· Organization of physical barriers for high radiation hazard areas.
· Procedures for identification of ‘hot points’, criteria for their recording, accounting, fencing, marking, shielding and their management (personnel actions for development and implementation of corrective actions).
· Actions for prevention of radioactive contamination spreading.
· Organization of mobile sanitary locks.
· Procedures for forced radiation monitoring of personnel and objects at the exit from controlled area.
· Radwaste management.
· Procedures for radwaste collection, sorting and storage.
During the final meeting with Armenian NPP management, the experts presented their recommendations for improvement of plant performance in radiation safety and radwaste management area and the draft MSM report.
