Workshop at Armenian NPP

During 19 to 23 November 2018, an international workshop organized by WANO MC jointly with Armenian NPP on the topic ‘Optimization of maintenance work performed on radioactive components’ was held in Erevan.
The workshop was attended by managers and specialists of Armenian NPP, nuclear power plants of Belarus, Bulgaria, Ukraine, representatives of JSC Atomenergoremont – branch of JSC Concern Rosenergoatom, NPP Alpha-Diagnistica (Russia) and Atomremontservice of NNEGC Energoatom (Ukraine).

The workshop was opened by Armenian NPP Chief Engineer Artur Grigorian. He noted that the workshop topic is important for Armenian NPP. Deputy Chief Engineer for maintenance Melik Karapetian stressed that the workshop is a good example of experience exchange for efficient performance of maintenance work based on high nuclear safety standards. The workshop coordinator Sergey Lesin, WANO MC Advisor, forwarded greetings of WANO Moscow Center Director Vasily Aksenov and his wishes of productive work; he also presented information on WANO programs. The manager of Maintenance planning and preparation department (MPPD) Oleg Gevorkian informed the participants on the workshop goals and issues for discussion. Representatives of Armenian NPP youth movement: lead engineer of MPPD Paikar Gaboian presented general information on Armenian NPP, actions for plant service life extension and modernization; reactor department engineer of centralized maintenance department Karen Tovmasian made a presentation on the topic ‘Actions for optimization of maintenance work on radioactive components at Armenian NPP’. WANO MC Representative at Armenian NPP Sergey Kendjetsian presented analysis of deficiencies in maintenance personnel performance described in WANO report, RPT 2018-07.

The workshop participants discussed presentations on the workshop topic. The workshop was held in constructive and open atmosphere, each participant shared his own experience.

On the final day, WANO experts visited Armenian NPP, including Training Center, multifunctional MCR simulator, mechanical maintenance shops, welding area, nitrogen-oxygen station, diesel-generator station, turbine department, and discussed suggestions for optimization of maintenance work and reduction of exposure doses during maintenance work performance.
